Vintage Port 1996

Vintage Port Wine Pairing

Want to end the year with a bang? Try something different than your mulled wine mixture..

Leave all your worries behind and open a well matured 1996 vintage Barros 1996. You would ask, would it still be good? The answer is……oh yes!

Thanks to its sweetness and complexity it withstood the test of time. When you open it, you will exit light and enter night. It is so dark; it would make Lord Voldemort look like Gandalf. Also, it has a thick sediment, so make sure you decant it.

This full-bodied gem is only made in exceptional years at the Duoro valley. When you give it a whiff, you will immediately be surrounded by aromas of ripe black fruit and dark chocolate. Additionally, tertiary aromas of leather, prunes and figs confirmed through taste amongst many other powerful aromas. Complexity, on point! This wine is of exceptional quality.

What to pair? There are plenty of options beyond your usual crème brûlée. As per photo, Porto was versus an army of granny smith apple pieces or mandarins and gorgonzola on oat biscuits, walnuts and Seville orange jam on dark chocolate pieces, blackberry jam and brie on wheat biscuits. On the other plate, grilled walnut filled dates wrapped in bacon. Plenty of magical pairing opportunities.
