Barossa Valley Shiraz

There we go. An amazing Barossa Shiraz that stimulates the palate and does not break the bank!

I went around for the hunt and was lucky to capture this wine from Patrick Cellars, located in Birzebbugia, Malta.

We now go on the other side of the planet to explore a south Australian masterpiece. Barossa Valley is a renowned fine wine region having a dry and warm climate.

This is an old vine Shiraz, resulting in a low yielding and high quality wine. Hand plunged in historic open concrete fermenters, careful ageing in the best oak barriques and hogsheads for eighteen months.

Besides having an explosive bouquet due to the old vines, its concentration is elevated further since we got the 2010 one. For a 13 year wine it seemed that it still had very good potential for further ageing. It was like meeting a jacked old man who likes to party.

Our nose and palate were graced by flavours of rich and ripe black fruits, vanilla from the oak, mushroom, leather, tobacco and spices. Full-bodied and very soft tannin.

To complement the wine's phenomenal intensity, we had a Pinsa Romana topped with porcini mushrooms, smoked scamorza and Italian sausage. It paired beautifully.
